Tree Artisan Cafe was founded in Oxford in 2020 as a celebration of women in specialty coffee. It is a female-led business: every coffee on the menu comes from a woman-led producer or cooperative, and the head baristas in Oxford are women too. The café is five minutes’ walk from the city centre, among bookshops, vintage stores and independent restaurants.

The coffees are single origins, bought directly from the women who grow them, with multi-year partnerships such as the Maracay farm in Colombia and the Poda women’s farmer groups in North Sumatra. The producers named on the bags include Luz Helena Salazar in Quindío and Luz Ángela Rojas in Huila, both in Colombia, and Desalech Mussie, who farms 1.6 hectares in Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia. Three of them rotate on the bar, from a classic washed Colombian to a lot fermented for 30 hours with fresh peaches.

The baristas brew espresso and pour-over, and the menu runs to artisan tea, hot chocolate and pastries baked in-house. The coffees are also sold online across the UK, by the bag or on subscription, and the café supplies restaurants, cafés, hotels and offices with coffee and barista training.
