Goya brings coffee and Argentina together in Ghent. Martin was born and raised in the Argentinian city of Goya and settled in Belgium; Keri fell for Latin America and its food on an exchange in Paraguay in 2011. Martin started the coffee truck in 2019, and in 2020 the couple opened their coffee shop. The big tree in the logo stands in Goya’s town square, with leaves drawn as coffee beans. Besides the shop there is a take-away counter, and the truck works events across Flanders and Brussels.
The coffee comes from the direct-trade programme of OR Coffee Roasters and is made on a Rocket Espresso machine by trained baristas, from a flat white to a Colombian single origin as slow coffee, across a range of coffees, blends and brew methods. Coffee and brewing equipment are for sale at the bar. There is also tea, hot chocolate, homemade lemonades and mate, the national drink of Argentina.
The food follows the merienda, the Argentinian afternoon coffee with something savoury or sweet: chipas, cheese breads fresh from the oven, alfajores filled with dulce de leche, empanadas and other pastries made on the spot, with breakfast and a lunch menu as well. Empanadas and alfajores can be ordered ahead. Goya gives local artists its walls to show their work.
