200 Degrees started in Nottingham in 2012 as three men standing around an old roaster in a garage. The name was originally the temperature in Centigrade at which the green beans were slowly roasted, and the ideal brewing temperature in Fahrenheit. Most of the coffee is now roasted at the Roast House on the banks of the River Trent, more than 200 tonnes a year, for the shops, the online store and more than 500 wholesale customers, from independent cafés and restaurants to university campuses. Visitors can call in at the Roast House on weekdays to ask a question or buy beans, tours are arranged on request, and open days run through the year. Since December 2025 its coffee has been served in first class on East Midlands Railway’s new Aurora trains.
The flagship coffee shop opened in October 2014 in a 17th-century coaching inn just off the Market Square. Nottingham also has a shop in a Victorian railway hotel a few metres from the station, a third opposite the Victoria Centre since May 2022, and one in West Bridgford, opened in July 2023 as the first 200 Degrees with a rooftop terrace. Beyond the city there are shops in Derby, Leicester, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, York, Lincoln, Chester and Cardiff, among other towns, and at several designer outlets.
Seven of the shops have barista schools, Flying Horse Walk among them, with classes from coffee fundamentals and latte art to SCA Barista Skills courses, and meeting rooms for up to 12 people seated. The house espresso, Brazilian Love Affair, is the coffee served in every shop, with chocolate, caramel and hazelnut on the roaster’s notes.
