Two Philadelphians started Vibrant Coffee Roasters “to change the game of third-wave coffee”, with no pretension and a focus on flavour and roasting. Its motto is “coffee is a fruit”. The coffee is roasted on a Loring fluid bed roaster, and because coffee is seasonal the offerings change often so that each one is sold at its peak. The Black Label coffees are competition-grade lots in limited quantities, roasted and shipped only on Tuesdays, and nothing is shipped more than four days after roasting. Among the current coffees are a washed Pink Bourbon from Faver Ninco in Huila that won the Huila Mágico competition in 2023 and a medium roast from the women farmers of the COOPAFSI cooperative in Cajamarca, Peru.

The first café is a tiny room on Rittenhouse Square. It pours espresso drinks, with a rotating list of signature lattes made with house syrups, and keeps two coffees on batch brew, a chocolatey medium roast and a rotating fruity light roast. The sourdough bakery is in-house: croissants, danishes, cinnamon buns, bagels and bread, plus a short menu of toasts and egg sandwiches.

A second café sits steps from City Hall, with the same drinks and pastries, bagels, buns and cookies baked on site and croissants brought over from Rittenhouse every morning; there are three stools at the window and sixteen more seats in the lobby next door. The third, in Society Hill between Washington Square West and Queen Village, adds pour-overs to the menu and has more room to sit. Vibrant also sells home espresso machines and grinders from Breville, Lelit, Rocket and Baratza, and its sister café Function Coffee Labs in Bella Vista serves its coffee.
