Tartoer has served coffee in Antwerp since 2013. It started as a small neighbourhood bar and now has two coffee bars in the city centre, one near the Grote Markt and one on the Ossenmarkt in the university quarter. Its line is “Good coffee. Friendly faces. Warm hearts.”

All of Tartoer’s coffee is roasted in-house on a Giesen W6, in small batches and light, and only as single origins, with no blends. Its roastery and bakery share the Stuivenberg site in the former Stuivenberg hospital, where Tartoer holds public cuppings, roastery tours and community events and runs a take-away bar in summer. Beans are sold in both bars and delivered by bike in Antwerp, and Tartoer also roasts for cafés, restaurants and offices.

Everything on the counter is baked by hand each day in Tartoer’s own bakery, most of it vegan, with vegetarian and gluten-free options. The vegan cinnamon roll is the bakery’s signature and most days the first thing to sell out. The food menu adds vegan soup, croques and flatbreads, and oat, soy, almond and coconut milk come at no extra charge. For events, Tartoer hires out a design food truck, Tartoer & Taart, which serves its coffee and pastry on location.
