Mokha 1450 is a luxury specialty coffee brand based in the United Arab Emirates, founded on “a strong ethical platform to responsibly source coffee”: the beans are bought through a direct-trade model, mostly from women-owned and women-run farms and cooperatives. Women do most of the labour in coffee and make up about 90% of the value chain while holding roughly 5% of ownership and management, and Mokha 1450 pays higher premiums to those farms and runs community projects with them. The origins are Yemen, Ethiopia, Jamaica, Guatemala, Colombia and Cuba, including the Ethiopian Haile Supreme, back in limited quantities.
There are five venues in Dubai. The Coffee Boutique is in Al Bada’a. On the Palm Jumeirah there is a Coffee Lounge at Golden Mile Galleria and a co-working lounge inside the Andaz hotel. The Coffee Priorists café at Emirates Towers is interactive: guests can experiment with coffee or make their own with guidance from the baristas. The fifth is in Al Barsha.
Masterclasses and curated experiences, among them The Coffee Olfactory Experience, can be booked, and the shop sells the single origins, cold brew, brewing equipment and merchandise.
