SO Coffee Roasters roasts in Porto, and its Lisbon outpost is an espresso and filter bar inside The Feeting Room in Chiado. In Porto it has a roastery café and a second coffee shop.

“SO” stands for southwest, the corner of Europe where Portugal and Porto sit, and the roaster takes Porto’s meaning, harbour, as its model: a place of welcome and exchange. Lisa, Pedro and João started the business in 2019, and the team now numbers 12. They meet the producers they buy from, among them Jose Eguiguren in Ecuador, Patrick Murray in El Salvador, Johan Vergara in Colombia and the Barbosa family in Brazil.

The team competes. Rui Pedrosa became Portugal’s barista champion in 2022 and placed among the top 15 at the World Barista Championship in Australia that year, which SO counts as Portugal’s best-ever result. Luiz Lahutte Motta won the Portuguese Brewers Cup in 2024 and represented Portugal at the World Brewers Cup in Jakarta in 2025.
