Mecca Coffee has roasted since 2005, when its first café, King Street, opened in the city centre. It started as an outlet for really great coffee at a time when Australia already had a mature café culture and most of the country’s roasters had very limited access to transparency at farm and origin level, so its founders set out with cupping spoons in hand to find the answers themselves. Its coffee is about a good life for those who drink it and those who grow it, and its sourcing favours producers who care about healthy soils, locally adjusted varieties, thoughtful husbandry and careful picking and processing. The King Street café closed in August 2024 after nineteen years.
The café and roastery in Alexandria is the heart of Mecca Coffee, where roasting and service come together. It serves the House blend daily, a rotating lineup from the Producer Series and a seasonal menu by chef Kaine Perkins, and offers catering. Glenmore Road, at The Intersection in Paddington, was Mecca’s first new store since 2015 and carries forward the legacy started in 2005. Foley Street in Darlinghurst, new in 2026, is an intimate coffee bar designed as a quiet, cave-like retreat, brewing the Moonwalker blend and a rotating selection of single lots, and it doubles as a hub for coffee tastings, training and education.
Mecca roasts all its single origins as an omni roast, suited to both espresso and filter, and its blends in the typical espresso style. The range runs to three blends, House, Moka and Moonwalker, a Producer Series of single lots, a Showcase Series of rare and exotic coffees, and the Decaf Rainbow from Colombia. Past lots are kept on a Coffee Honour Roll. The current retail range is listed below with the roaster’s own tasting notes.
