Shift Eatery is a vegan café and deli in Surry Hills, a few steps from Central Station, serving breakfast and lunch since 2017. Everything on the menu is vegan. The kitchen makes its own deli meats: bacon and egg for a bagel billed as “the best vegan bacon & egg bagel in the world”, corned beef for a Reuben, deli slices for a ham toastie and a club sandwich, and beef for a Thai salad. There is also a vegan omelette, a big breakfast plate, pancakes, a crispy chicken burger, a lamb tzatziki wrap, a poke bowl with smoked tofu and a falafel bowl.
The coffee is roasted by Marvell St Coffee Roasters. Tea comes from Teacraft, drinking chocolate from Mork, masala chai from Soma and the superfood lattes from Being Co, and the smoothie list runs from a banana salted caramel on oat milk to a green blend with kale, spirulina and coconut water.
The deli shelves stock vegan groceries and snacks to take home, also sold through an online shop. Seating is walk-in only, with no reservations, and takeaway can be ordered ahead.
