fekete opened next to Astoria in 2013, at first as an espresso bar of just 11 square metres pouring new-wave coffee from small roasters. Two years later it added a brew and food bar that opens onto the courtyard, and in the warmer months the tables spread into the courtyard of the building next door.

The team chooses its green coffees at cuppings, so they are poured only at fekete and the places that belong to the fekete family. For many years the roasting has been done by Casino Mocca, its favourite Budapest roaster. The shelves carry filter coffee gear, from hand grinders, the AeroPress and the V60 to mizudashi cold brewers and syphons.

Breakfast and brunch follow a seasonal menu, and the cakes come from fekete’s own dessert workshop. The brew bar also hosts events, dinners and receptions, and fekete brings its coffee to anything from small company gatherings to events of several thousand people.
