Suffolk Coffee opened in 2022 in The Suffolks, the Cheltenham neighbourhood it is named after, a short walk from Montpellier Gardens. The aim is “to serve delicious coffee of exceptional quality”, for commuters picking up a pastry on the way to work as much as for people settling in with a slice of cake. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

The baristas make the coffee on a Rocket Doppia espresso machine and a Mahlkönig grinder, with beans from Triple Co Roast in Bristol. Jo Thompson founded Triple Co in early 2015 after two years in California learning coffee and roasting at home, and the roastery aims to buy its coffee through direct trade with farmers or from suppliers who trade directly.

Much of the rest of the menu is sourced nearby. Friands come from Lara’s Tarts & Friands in Cheltenham, cakes, brownies and traybakes from Wild Flour Cake Company in Bath, loose leaf tea from Born Wild Tea in Cirencester and soft drinks from Nuisance Drinks in Guiting Power, with Blendsmiths hot chocolate and chai. The cake menu always includes a vegan option and a very low gluten option, and takeaway packaging is recyclable or compostable where possible.
