Maude roasts single origins and seasonal blends at a roastery under the railway arches in Leeds, in small batches on a Probat P-12, adjusting the profile for each lot. It is a small team that buys mostly through importers it trusts, and it frames its approach as “no jargon, no shortcuts”. The roastery door is open: “feel free to drop into the roastery for a brew - you’re always welcome!”
The house blend, Foundation, is half a natural from the Café Delas programme in Brazil, where the coffee is grown entirely by women, and half a washed community lot from Huila and Tolima in Colombia whose sales fund the Los Pasos project, which has built 11 bridges across 9 coffee-growing communities. The house decaf supports the same project. Off-Piste is an experimental blend whose components change regularly. At the top of the range, the Summit Collection gathers rare lots such as carbonic maceration Geishas from Finca Deborah in Panama and a 2020 Cup of Excellence coffee from West Guji, vacuum-sealed and frozen.
All the coffee is packed in UK-recyclable, carbon-neutral bags, and Maude aims to align with 1% for the Planet by 2027. Its wholesale partners include the Climbing Lab bouldering gym in Kirkstall, Alfonso’s Deli and the Left Bank arts space in Hyde Park, and the team also offers equipment, servicing and training.
