Foundry Coffee Roasters is a small independent business, established in Sheffield in 2012. It roasts at Cutlery Works, the food hall in Neepsend, and runs a coffee shop inside the same hall, with a second coffee shop in Cambridge Street Collective, the food hall in the city centre.
Every coffee Foundry sells is a single origin. It roasts no blends, which it sees as the commodification of specialty coffee, and it roasts to order four days a week. The range is split into Comfort coffees, with toffee, caramel and chocolate notes, and Adventure coffees, chosen for fruit-forward profiles and less common processing. Each coffee has its own data sheet with region, variety, process and, when there is one, the Q grader score. Rocko Mountain, a natural Ethiopian, has been on the list almost every year for over a decade and is its seasonal best seller. The No. 9 Roast, Foundry’s first coffee designed for espresso, is the coffee at Cafe No.9 in Nether Edge.
Foundry has been an accredited Real Living Wage employer since 2018 and has measured and offset its carbon emissions since 2020. Small leftover quantities of green coffee from sold-out lots go to home roasters rather than to waste, and every review it receives is published, good or bad.
