Drop Coffee opened in 2009 as a coffee bar near Mariatorget in Södermalm. A year later it started roasting on a 1 kg roaster in the back of the shop. In 2012 it moved to a 25 kg Diedrich in a dedicated facility to supply wholesale customers, and in 2018 it relocated the roastery to Rosersberg, just north of Stockholm, where it roasts as a certified organic roaster. The coffee bar remains in its original location, and a second café opened in Nakano, Tokyo, on 18 September 2026.

Joanna Alm and Stephen Leighton are the co-owners. Joanna is a three-time Swedish Coffee Roasting Champion and the author of Manifest För Bättre Kaffe. Drop buys fully transparent coffee from single farms and cooperatives it has visited, mainly in Bolivia, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Ethiopia and Kenya, and pays several times the commodity price. Many of those partnerships go back more than ten years, every coffee scores 86 or higher on the SCA scale, and the FOB price paid is given for each one. It roasts to order in batches of 8 to 16 kg, on a light to medium profile meant for every brewing method. Drop has supplied Kalita brewing equipment in Sweden since 2013, is a member of the trade union HRF and has produced a yearly sustainability report since 2021.

The café rotates through all the current coffees every day, on espresso and on brew-on-demand filter. Bread, pastries and sandwiches come from Svedjan Bageri, the kitchen is about 70% organic, and the chocolate comes from Svenska Kakaobolaget, the kombucha from ICHA and the tea from Yuko Ono Japanese Tea. The cups are by Erika Petersdotter. The shelves carry the latest beans from the roastery, with brewing equipment and Drop merchandise.
