Brammibal's Donuts

Brammibal’s Donuts started in Berlin in 2015, selling doughnuts at markets and events around the city. A year later it opened a shop of its own. The aim has stayed the same since: to change how people see plant-based food. There are now ten shops in Berlin, from Neukölln, Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain to Potsdamer Platz, the Hauptbahnhof, the sixth floor of KaDeWe and BER Airport, and five in Hamburg, including a bakery and café in Altona. More than 170 people work for the company, paid under the collective wage agreement for the system catering trade.

Every doughnut is vegan, made fresh from scratch each morning without preservatives. A classic range sits beside monthly specials, the chocolate comes from Original Beans, and the fruit glazes start from puréed whole fruit. Since 2018, fifty cents from every Strawberry Sprinkles doughnut has gone to non-profits, more than €500,000 so far.

The coffee comes from Populus, the Berlin roaster, chosen for its focus on environmental impact and fair opportunities for coffee farmers. The espresso goes into cappuccinos, flat whites, lattes, mochas and americanos made with oat milk, mostly Oatly, and there is a daily single-origin filter coffee, a cold brew and a run of signature drinks such as a Franzbrötchen latte with cinnamon cold foam and a Mont Blanc of iced cold brew with vanilla and orange oil. Some shops host weekly run clubs with Enduure. Populus roasts the coffee Brammibal’s serves.
