“Riccos er en simpel tanke”: Riccos is a simple idea, good coffee as the starting point for a good moment. For more than twenty years the business has insisted on doing things its own way, and by its own account coffee is not a religion, a science or a lifestyle but a pause without noise. It began with its first coffee bar in Vesterbro.

Ricco is the roaster behind Riccos. He roasted his first beans in a frying pan over an open fire, before that first bar opened, and every week he still roasts the beans that are drunk in the coffee bars. The range is three single origins, from Costa Rica, Ethiopia and Guatemala, and Black Death, the espresso blend made from all three. The bags are inspired by Ricco’s love of jazz, with graphic layout by Nicolai Bejder and illustrations by Kasper Eistrup.

The coffee bars are spread across Copenhagen: two in Vesterbro, one of them at Kaktus Towers, and others in Nørrebro, Valby, Sydhavnen and Brønshøj, a bar in the telephone kiosk on Christianshavns Torv and one at the Natural History Museum of Denmark. Outside the city there are bars on the DTU campuses in Hørsholm and Kongens Lyngby, and a summer bar on the island of Anholt.

Green choices have been part of Riccos since the first bar opened. In 2020 it added a surcharge on disposable cups and a discount for reusable ones, and the surcharge goes in full to a tree nursery and tree planting at El Olmo, the coffee farm in Mexico that Riccos runs with Cofoco Food.
