April started roasting coffee in Copenhagen in 2016, with the ambition of exploring how good coffee could become when every decision was made with purpose. The roastery is now in Solrød, where each coffee is roasted to express the character created at origin. April buys through direct trade with farmer-led pricing, runs single farmer projects and always goes back to the same farmers. When a relationship is new, an importer can handle the first purchases, as Café Imports does for Kayon Mountain in Ethiopia. The farms it currently works with include Gesha Village, Hacienda La Esmeralda, Kamavindi, Tadesse and Volcan Azul.

The April Store is the company’s home in the heart of Copenhagen, where its coffees, brewing equipment and other projects come together. The menu changes with the seasons and follows the coffees arriving from the Partner Farmers, and rare and limited coffees sit beside the daily selection. The projects include the April Brewer, the April 01 hand grinder, a wooden brewer, compostable capsules, The April Book, the April Brewers Cup, a clothing line and collaborations with Buaisou and Iznik.

Next door, the SP Coffee Shop is the home of the SP project, which buys a wider range of coffees from the same producers. Those coffees are roasted with more development than the April Selection, for sweetness, balance and consistency, and the menu is espresso, filter and milk drinks with a small selection of food.
