Potts Coffee & Kitchen is a coffee shop in Liverpool city centre. Its founders, Jonny and Danielle, wanted somewhere that served both good coffee and a good vegan brunch and could not find one, so they opened it in the Ropewalks. The whole menu is plant-based, the cakes and pastries come from local vegan businesses, and seasonal fruit and vegetables are bought from British farms where possible.

Neighbourhood Coffee, a Liverpool roaster, sources and roasts all of Potts’s coffee. The house espresso is a fully washed blend: 70 per cent Brazilian Gerezim, grown by the Caixeta family on an estate between 1,000 and 1,250 metres, and 30 per cent Colombian Huila from the Salado Blanco, Operada and Pitalito areas. Neighbourhood roasts it fairly light, drawing the roast out a little for a creamy body and caramel character. Potts’s notes for the cup: a rich chocolatey body, pronounced toffee sweetness and a complex fruity edge. Oat milk is the standard milk, chosen because its lower fat content does not mask the coffee’s aromas while still steaming to a smooth texture. A range of specialty teas sits beside the coffee.

The room was fitted out by local tradespeople from locally sourced materials: the counter and tables are reclaimed wood from a local sustainable business, and the benches were rescued from a nearby timber yard. Takeaway containers are compostable and waste goes to a recycling partner rather than landfill. Neighbourhood Coffee roasts the coffee.
