Silo has served breakfast and lunch in Friedrichshain since 2013 and is a brunch and specialty coffee pioneer in Berlin. The menu runs all day, to eat in or take away, and the café buys from local producers: cinnamon swirl pancakes, mushrooms on toast, a beef melt on sourdough, avocado on toast and a full plate of poached eggs, bacon, avocado and roast potatoes, with vegan options and a build-your-own breakfast of poached eggs and extras. Croissants, canelés, a gluten-free miso brownie and banana bread come from the counter.
The coffee is from Fjord Coffee Roasters, which Silo launched in 2015 and remains the home of, and from Field Coffee, a second Berlin roaster it works with. The drinks list runs from espresso and long black to batch filter with refills, iced filter, cortado, flat white, cappuccino and latte, with Oatly and decaf as options, plus matcha, chai, hot chocolate and teas from Lotus Tea. Bags of beans are sold to take home.
Silo takes no reservations. When the room is full it runs a live waitlist that can be checked online, payment is by card only, and at busy times the café may ask for a table back after 90 minutes. A loyalty club earns points per visit. Fjord Coffee Roasters and Field Coffee roast for Silo.
