Ruda Café is a small specialty café where customers can drink coffees from different origins alongside a range of teas and home-made cakes. Its greeting is “Karibu coffee lovers!”, it likes its coffee well made, freshly ground and with the ratio dialled in, and it is a welcoming place in the middle of the Rastro, next to La Latina metro, for a coffee to take away or as a meeting point for people who love coffee.
The menu is espresso, americano, café con leche with fresh, lactose-free or plant milks, cappuccino, flat white, and a filter coffee that changes every week, brewed on V60, Aeropress or batch brew. Teas run from Japanese sencha to pu-erh, oolong and white tea, with chai and matcha lattes. The cakes are made in house: lemon tea biscuits called Rudas, carrot cake, a wheat-free violet cake, cookies, vegan banana bread and a sugar-free cheesecake.
The online shop sells a long list of coffees, many under the La Noria Coffee Project label from Finca La Noria in Tolima, Colombia, Ruda’s own farm, roasted in Madrid by Randall Coffee Roasters. Other bags carry the Ruda Café name. The shop also sells teas, Hario and Aeropress brewing kit, a two-hour Home Barista workshop and a Latte Art Pro session, and places at evening tastings and fermentation workshops that it hosts at a separate address.
