Misión Café was born from a passion for coffee and baking. Founded in 2017, it set out to be a space where quality, craftsmanship and community come together, and its coffee programme serves specialty coffee while supporting sustainable farming and direct trade relationships with producers. It is a specialty coffee bar and artisanal bakehouse in the heart of Madrid, near Plaza de España.
Misión Bakehouse is the café’s workshop, in the adjacent premises on the same street. It bakes bread and pastry daily for the café and sells directly to customers, with coffee to go. The bakery works with sourdough for loaves, seed breads, brioche, baguettes and focaccia. Puff pastry is its most prized production, laminated with patience, and it also bakes sponge cakes, cookies and seasonal specials. There are croissants, cinnamon and passion fruit rolls, a cheesecake, a kouign-amann sold only at the Bakehouse and weekend-only pieces such as a pistachio croissant.
Misión does not roast. Kalita and V60 pour-overs come from 1000 Cups and DAK, the espresso drinks run on a Brazilian coffee and on Hola Coffee’s Lucero Blend, and bags of Hola Coffee can be ordered. There are also batch brew, a cold brew, a tasting flight of espresso, cortado and a small filter, teas from Toto Organics, and breakfasts, bowls, toasts and sandwiches. The coffee is roasted by Hola Coffee, 1000 Cups and DAK, and the Hola coffees are listed below.
