Tanat has roasted in Paris since 2016 and traded as Kawa before taking its current name. It buys directly from farms, producers and cooperatives it has often known for years, in small traceable lots, and roasts them in its own Paris workshop, with each profile adjusted to the harvest, the terroir and the processing. It will never use pods.

The first coffee shop opened in the Marais in 2019, and it remains the intimate spot where it all began. Victoria followed near Châtelet, then Tiquetonne in the Montorgueil neighbourhood, and the fourth, Château d’Eau, in the 10th near République. The shops serve espresso, lattes and filter coffee. In 2024 Tanat was named best independent coffee shop in Europe in a vote reserved for coffee professionals, and the Victoria shop was selected among the world’s top 100 coffee shops and ranked seventh.

The online range is sorted by roast use, espresso, filter, moka pot and automatic machine, and by category: terroir lots, funky and fruity fermentations, innovative processes, decaffeinated, and a competition shelf of 100 g lots scored 90 and above, most of them Panamanian geishas. Each coffee carries a score, producer, variety and process. Tanat also runs an academy with SCA-certified trainers, from a two-hour home barista session to SCA courses, and sells brewing equipment and a subscription online.
