Friedhats is a micro-roastery based in Amsterdam, sourcing and roasting the most interesting coffee it can find for homes, cafés, restaurants and offices. It buys directly from producers and from trusted importers across Europe, sources on flavour, roasts to bring out each coffee’s natural character, and trains the people who serve it. Sustainability, for Friedhats, is a process, not a buzzword; the roastery is not perfect, and it wants its packaging reused, refilled or at the very least recycled.

FUKU opened in September 2018 in Bos en Lommer, in the west of the city, as the roastery’s first café. The promise is “good coffee, nice people, and sometimes even natural wine”. Almost every coffee Friedhats has on offer is served here as filter or espresso, together with a few Super Special, competition-grade coffees: experimental processes, geisha varieties and “more funky and boozy flavours than you can handle”. The food is cakes and pastries, croissants, house-made granola and some light eats, with beers from brewers around the world and natural wines. The FUKU Wine Night runs monthly. Friedhats sources everything it can locally, from people who care about what they produce and how.

The roastery itself receives wholesale accounts by appointment only. Bags of Friedhats coffee are sold at the café and online. The current retail range is listed below with the roaster’s own tasting notes.
