Allpress has roasted coffee since 1989 and now works from Auckland, Tokyo and London. It has bought arabica from origin since 2001 and roasts only with its Hot Air Roasting method. It roasts “for the best independent cafés in the world, and for your kitchen too”, in partnership with more than 2,200 cafés and restaurants.
In the United Kingdom the coffee is roasted in London. More than thirty of the partner cafés are in the United Kingdom, and Allpress runs one café of its own, in Farringdon. Among the London partners is Compane, whose four espresso bars in the West End and Angel serve Allpress as their house espresso.
The range is short by design, “there is elegance in the restraint”: five blends, each with a flavour profile that is set in stone and kept there by re-sourcing and roast adjustments, and a single-origin programme that changes through the year. The Allpress Espresso Blend is the signature coffee. One of the blends was developed for Company of Cooks, with a donation for every bag sold online to Well Grounded, a social enterprise that creates training and employment pathways in coffee and hospitality for unemployed people. The online shop also sells capsules of three blends, brewing equipment and places on two brewing workshops.
The current retail range is listed below with the roaster’s own tasting notes.
