Assembly Coffee is an independent roaster in Brixton. It grew out of conversations in 2014, when a small team from an established south London roastery brought together independent coffee shops and restaurants to work out how a roastery could best serve them. Assembly launched in April 2015 as headline sponsor of the first Coffee Masters at the London Coffee Festival. It is now a B Corp with a team of about 30, led by its co-founders Nick Mabey and Michael Cleland, and its two core beliefs are that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts and that everything can always be better.

Its coffee is served in more than a hundred cafés, restaurants and hotels, among them Milk in Balham and Pophams, and it supplies homes from Manchester to Manila. The range runs from the house coffees (an espresso blend, a single-origin House Espresso and a decaf) through Selected Espresso and Selected Filter lots to Elevated Brewing, rare coffees for pour-over. Through 2026 it is marking ten years with a monthly series of limited releases, among them the Geisha its head of quality, Claire Wallace, used to win the 2022 UK Barista Championship.

Door, the coffee bar on the roastery site, serves the house coffees, favourite filters and limited releases. Jake Mummery, Irish Brewers Cup Champion, manages it. Assembly’s Brixton HQ also hosts SCA courses led by its head of training, Raquel Mezquita, plus pour-over masterclasses and Hot Drops tasting evenings.
