The small-batch roaster rish works from West London. The name blends the names of its two founders, and in Cantonese, where an “r” can turn into a “w”, it can sound like “wish”. Sharon Ip is a Q grader and a Great Taste Awards judge, won Coffee Masters in 2026 after finishing runner-up in 2025, came third at the Hario Brewer’s Cup in 2025 and won the Kaffeine Latte Art Smackdown in 2024. Riley Yau is also a Q grader and a former head of coffee.
Every sample is cupped blind, without its origin, variety or score, so that flavour comes first. The roaster looks for rare or lesser-known farms, varieties and origins, and changes its offering every couple of months. Coffees run from bright African lots and chocolatey South American ones to extensively processed Asian Liberica, such as a mosto-fermented anaerobic honey Liberica from An Farm in Quang Tri, Vietnam, alongside a natural Geisha from Alishan in Taiwan.
The roasting is generally light, with some coffees taken further for sweetness and depth, and everything is roasted to order. Small bags, from 100g, keep the coffee fresh and let more people try the limited lots. The roastery is a production space for now, and rish offers wholesale within the UK alongside its online shop.
